The Deisenroth's

schmied1a.jpg (18392 Byte)

I created this Internetsite to get more information about the family and the history of the Deisenroths.
On this page you can see my father working together with one of his employees in the blacksmith.

This picture gives you also an idea of what the name Deisenroth has to do with a blacksmith.

You can subdivide this name in 3 parts.

D  Eisen  Roth

Let's start with the middle part.
This is the German word for iron. So it makes sense for a blacksmith to have the name of iron in his family name.

Most of the German people nowadays think that the third part of the name has something to do with the color red (in German: Rot).
This is, because "iron" and "red" makes sense for a blacksmith, as he is always working with hot, red iron.

But because the last letter of the name is a "h", the name "Roth" is meant. In Germany the family of the "Roths" was the family of a wood-cutter who cut all the trees during the time period when Germany became a cultivated landscape.

So my explanation was that one of the wood-cutters was better educated in technical things and made the tools for the other wood-cutters. He worked a lot with iron and so he then was called

"Der Eisen Roth"

The first part of the Name "D" is sometimes used in colloquial German as the short form for "Der"
("der" is the German word for "the"). So they called him

"D Eisen Roth"

what is in English

"The Iron Wood-Cutter"

At this time the history of the Deisenroths began.

It is interesting to see that even today most of the Deisenroths have something to do with technique. I grew up in a blacksmith and my father, grandfather .... have also been blacksmiths. The picture you see in this history site is from my father‘s blacksmith, founded in 1813. Even when I look in a German telephone book I find a lot of engineers with the family name Deisenroth.

I am working today for a company who sells CAD/CAM software. I think this is the new way of "blacksmithing" because it has a lot to do with technique in a modern form.

You can find an overview of the Deisenroth's living in Germany an the map.

So I am really interested in what you are doing, no matter if you have something to do with technique or not. But perhaps you know something more about

the History of the Deisenroth.

Locking forward to hear from you.
